Training

*** PLEASE NOTE THERE HAVE BEEN SOME FAR REACHING CHANGES TO THE EXAMINATIONS SYLLABUSES  AND WE  ARE PRESENTLY (2024) NOT RUNNING NEW CLASSES. WE ARE HOPING TO RENEW TRAINING FOR NEW CANDIDATES BEFORE TOO LONG.

The good news is that we do not have membership fees or subs at Sheffield Wireless Society, so this means you have free access to training with us which we provide at all three levels. All you pay for, is your examination fee. No other local club can offer this level of support. Click the links for more information on the three levels, and don’t forget to watch our video below;

We provide this service to encourage new members to participate in our society, hopefully remaining as members for many years to come, thus increasing their enjoyment of a great hobby that is amateur radio.

Training is planned to take place at the Heeley Green Community Centre, 344 Gleadless Rd, Heeley, Sheffield S2 3AJ with also access to our online learning resource for students to our forums (link above). This means you can continue to enjoy our talks and events on our formal evenings, and enjoy learning on our more relaxed social evenings with a chance to meet people.

Examinations will also be conducted at the  Heeley  Centre under strict rules and can be witnessed by an RSGB representative at any time. We chose our invigilator, Steve G0EAK, as a member of Worksop ARS, with whom we enjoy very pleasant links. This is to help us at Sheffield Wireless to ensure strict examination rules are followed as well as to provide a neutral and independent approach with a fair exam for all. Our approach is that rather than help you answer a question to pass as has been found in other clubs in past, if you fail, we can learn your weak areas and try again. We have so far had no exam failures. This is a much more satisfying experience.
